April 7 Facebook Is Hiding Your Messages

“Everything you post on social media impacts your personal brand. How do you want to be known?” Lisa Horn aka The Publicity Gal

Facebook has a stash of your messages somewhere. I heard about this but thought it was a one-off case. I now know that this has affected me indirectly more than once and maybe directly once. I’ll explain.

I have a friend from my teenage years whom I was pretty close to for a very short time. He was a musician when I met him in the 80’s. He’s a couple of years older than me, but still he had a different life for a teenager. He was intriguing. I lost touch with him. When Older Charming and Also Handsome Son was born several years later, I named him in honor of my friend. I thought about my friend many times over the years but never knew what came of him and his music. A few years ago, someone suggested I contact him on Facebook, so I did. He’s kinda famous now and he didn’t respond. I thought this was so odd and my feelings were a little bit hurt. I thought: he must be so busy being famous, he must have forgotten me, maybe I wasn’t as memorable to him as he was to me. Who knows? Or MAYBE Facebook never delivered my messages to his inbox.

In a totally unrelated adventure, tonight my son found a Facebook message from two years ago. The message was from my mom’s friend’s family letting us know that the friend was very ill and was not going to live for very much longer. She died two years ago and my mom did not get to speak to her. I called the grand-daughter tonight (two years too late) and offered my condolences. This was heart-breaking.

As soon as I got off the phone, I researched this Facebook Mystery Hole and this is what I found: Facebook may filter your messages to a far away land and you may never get them unless you are tinkering on your page one day. I read the instructions on how to get to this hidden place but I still wasn’t able to get there. Maybe you will have better luck.

This is copied directly from an article published today on The Next Web:

If you open Messenger, then Settings and click on People, then Message Requests, then “See filtered requests” you’ll get to the treasure trove.

Maybe I’m stupid, but I couldn’t find it.
